Riptide

Riptide

June 30th 2020 would change the world for many people.
Riptide exploded on the scene like a bomb that hit everyone in their core. An emaciated dog tied by his back leg to a tree with a rope and a zip tie wrapped around his face and left for dead in a secluded woods in St. Paul. His story went national and he had followers from around the world. He was the worst case of maggot infestation anyone had ever scene. He was moments from death.
The fact that anyone could do such a thing to an animal was incomprehensible. He was barely a year old and we didn’t know if he would live through the night. The leg tied to the tree had the rope imbedded down to the bone and was dead.
He slowly overcame obstacle after obstacle in the medical realm. Then it was time to attempt to heal his mental and emotional trauma. We knew this would take the longest time. It has now been almost 8 months and he is just starting to heal.
Riptide has made huge strides but he does still struggle with strangers, mainly men. His new adopter will need to understand that he isn’t just a pretty face or a popular news story. When we first took him in we were overwhelmed with emails from people wanting to adopt him without even meeting him and before we knew who he was. We will be extremely picky with who adopts him.
Here are some criteria for adopting:
1. Fenced yard
2. No cats
3. Willing to commit to continuing his training and socialization with people of all ages, sizes and personalities.
4. Provide him with continued routine medical care ie, dental cleanings, vaccinations, heartworm/flea/tick prevention year round etc.
5. Provide him with good quality food and keep him at a nice trim weight so not to cause excess strain on his remaining back leg.
Riptide is still very much a puppy. He likes to chew on things, he is very high energy, he can jump straight up near 6 feet. He loves to play with other dogs but sometimes he can get rough. He needs an active person/family. He does well with kids but best if they were over 6 years old. He is still working on house training as well.
He is currently staying with our friends at Fun Fur Pets in La Crosse, WI so if you are interested in a meet and greet you will need to travel there. They will go over the ins and outs of what he needs and what he will need long term.

His adoption fee is $300
