This sweet lady has had a rough go since she was a small puppy. She originally came from Texas and was a shy little girl. She was with another rescue and they worked to find her the perfect home for almost a year. When they finally thought they found it they noticed she started to limp on one of her back legs. They brought her to their vet and found out she had bad hip dysplasia and bilateral locating patellas (mobile knee caps). This caused extreme instabilility and discomfort in her rear end. When they were given the quote for surgery they simply could not swing it. They reached out to us for help and we transferred her to our rescue. They knew that she was super shy and would do best with them as the foster. We have done surgery to correct both knees. Her hips should be just fine know that her knees have been corrected but she will need to be on joint supplements long term. She also needs to remain on the thin side. She is now ready for her forever home! Here is what her foster has to say about her and what they feel would be the best fit for this 30# beauty!
“She’s still awfully timid in new places, or new places with new people, but she’s done exceptional meeting strangers in our own home so I’m confident an understanding and somewhat patient family can earn her trust quickly.
She has a crazy amount of energy and she’s very picky about pooping outside on a leash (another trait her mom and all siblings share too 😂) so I personally would require a fenced yard. She’s does great with cats and loves to play with them but occasionally needs reminding when she’s in a cat’s face who isn’t into it. She’s done well with every dog she’s met and she pretty much needs a companion for her play time and energy lol.
She has destructive tendencies, especially when left alone, even if we go to another floor of the house without her for 15+ minutes. More space and time to get her energy out will likely help. She tolerates the crate and we prefer having her in a wire pen when we do leave and she does well there.
She definitely needs a family who is into having the dog on the bed because she is constantly up, moving, getting into trouble all night long, unless she’s up on the bed, where she’ll sleep like a baby typically at the foot of the bed all night. She can’t jump very high so we have to lift her into the car or on the bed but she can handle the couch.
Ultimately I think she’d do best with a family who is willing to earn her trust and lead her safely through her fears, are aware of her medical history and future, isn’t out of the home for long hours (<8 hours a day for sure until she consistently potties outside), and have a fenced yard that will help with her house training, working off her belly, getting all her energy out, and destroying less. Having a current doggy that enjoys wrestling with other dogs would be a huge plus. Overall, Jackie is timid and has some behaviors to work on but she has a huge heart and is happiest when she's snuggling and licking her person. Oh yeah, adoptive family MUST love kisses, because she will shower you with them, even when you least expect it 😂 Adoption applications available at rpaw.org Adoption fee is $225
