Mimsy and Dary ❤
These 2 little kittens joined us around the same time about 3 months ago.
Mimsy came to us at about 3 to 4 weeks old. She was part of a litter of barn kittens and she had a Cuterebra worm embedded in her neck. At her age and size if it was left untreated it would have been life threatening. It was removed and she was started on antibiotics. She was also bottle fed for the next couple weeks. She also had a very deformed rear leg. As she grew, we realized that it wasn’t a hindrance to her at all and there is no reason to remove it. She can run and play and climb and jump as any other kitten.
Dary came to us at about 6 or 7 weeks old. He was a stray kitten found dumped in a dog park. His eyes were swollen shut with infection. He couldn’t see and he still was a purring machine. He just wanted attention and to be held close all the time. We hoped that with antibiotics his swelling would resolve and the vision would return. Unfortunately only the swelling resolved. Underneath was chronically damaged eye globes. We took him to a veterinary ophthalmologist and they said he would never recover any vision and there would always be relapsing infections. We made the difficult decision to remove his eye globes. He hasn’t missed a beat though and is happy as a clam!
As time went on we were able to find a foster home that took both Mimsy and Dary to recover and grow while they had time to socialize. They became fast friends. They do everything together. Here is what their foster family has to say:
“Dary is blind but he runs, jumps, and purrs just like any other kitten. He has never had sight so he uses his other senses to get around. His fur is like a soft bunny and he loves to snuggle in bed.
Mimsy has a deformed rear leg but it doesn’t hurt her and she has learned how to walk, run, climb and jump despite her leg. She loves her crinkly tunnel and proudly carries around her “mouse”, she is a mighty hunter! Mimsy loves to be held and will make suckling sounds on you, which is the most adorable thing ever!”
These 2 will be adopted together ❤ There isn’t any other way 🙂 They currently live in a home with 2 large dogs and 2 adult cats and a child.
